The Outdoor Research Illuminate Hoody is an ultralight down jacket (~300) that delivers impressive warmth thanks to 800-fill RDS goose down and a slim, athletic cut that eliminates dead spots . It packs away small into its own pocket, becomes an invaluable bit of gear to carry around as the nights drawn in closer and colder. The slim fit layer near enough disappears between your baselayer and outer, providing the warmth of a gaggle of geese’s love embrace. Ultralight in weight, it still carries key everyday features such as two zipped pockets at the waist and two internal pockets for storing items you want to keep warm (gloves, spare socks, emergency pasty). The hood has two cinches at the front; and a third cinch at the back of the hood to dial in a complete enclosure of protection that a medieval knight could only dream of. I’ve worn this a couple of times, put pivoted heavily into the cult of fast packing and active insulation so have no need for any non-belay down in the collection. Model is 5’7” and a slim 58kg. The fit js slim and athletic, and I’d advise only those of similarly ghoulish proportions consider.
